Looking for a creative family activity to start feeling Christmassy? We’ve teamed up with Greta at Love to Craft Mcr to bring you this family-friendly, festive activity…
Crafting your own wrapping paper is a fun, simple way to get the whole family involved. All you need is some kraft (brown) paper, a few ink pads in your favourite festive colours and a sprinkle of holiday cheer.
Materials needed:
Kraft paper (brown wrapping paper)
Ink pads in a few different colours (it really doesn’t have to be many – less is more. How about red and white or perhaps a festive green or gold?) Paint works as well, however it is quite a bit messier!
Sponge dabbers or stamps
Black marker or pen for details
Steps:
Pick a colour scheme: For a harmonious look, stick to a colour scheme of about three colours. Red, white and black work wonderfully together to create a classic Christmas vibe. This simple palette keeps the design looking neat and festive.
Create patterns and designs: Use sponge dabbers or simple stamps to create patterns. Kids can stamp cheerful Santas, snowmen, or stars. You don’t need fancy stamps – round sponge dabbers dipped in ink can be used to create snowmen bodies and Santa hats! Once stamped, add facial details or buttons using a black marker. Remember to let the ink dry before (it shouldn’t take long).
Let your creativity flow: Allow each family member to add their own flair. Younger children can stick to simple shapes while older ones can add details and touches like twinkling stars or festive messages. The key is to have fun and make it personal.
Decorating your own wrapping paper is an easy, budget-friendly and sustainable way to wrap gifts. Kraft paper is not only durable and easy to work with, but it's also recyclable and more eco-friendly than traditional glossy wrapping paper.
Plus, with the colour scheme kept simple, the results are guaranteed to look coordinated and charming under your Christmas tree.
But most importantly, this could be a new Christmas tradition and it really doesn’t take a lot of preparation. So, gather around the table, pour some hot chocolate and let the creativity flow.
I hope you have fun!
Love,
Greta xx
