New mental health workshops in Sale to offer creative support

A new series of craft-based workshops is launching in Sale, offering a creative and supportive space for those struggling with anxiety and depression.

Make and Mind Workshops

Make and Mind Workshops, founded by local resident Vicky Walker (pictured above), will combine nature, craft and community to promote mental wellbeing.

Vicky, a biology teacher and mental health advocate, has designed these sessions for people who feel stuck, isolated or overwhelmed. She also currently volunteers with PANDAS Trafford, supporting parents experiencing mental health challenges. Her workshops provide a relaxed and welcoming environment where attendees can connect with nature, learn a new craft and meet others who understand what they’re going through.

Each workshop series runs over four consecutive weeks at the Make and Mind Studio in M33. The sessions include a pre-meet, guided walks in Walkden Gardens to gather inspiration from nature, hands-on craft tuition and refreshments. With a focus on colour, texture and creativity, these workshops aim to boost confidence and self-esteem while offering a much-needed break from daily stressors.

The workshops are open to anyone who wants to gain support and benefit from creative activities, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis of a mental health condition.

A safe and supportive space

“The idea came from seeing so many people struggling with their mental health, not knowing what to do while waiting for therapy or feeling lost after being signed off work,” Vicky explains.

“This is a chance to step out of that space, focus on something creative and feel a sense of achievement.”

For just £100 per person, attendees receive over 10 hours of contact time, with all materials included. This cost includes a heavily discounted mental health rate and payments can be made in instalments.

“These workshops are perfect for anyone feeling low, demotivated or anxious,” Vicky adds. “There’s no pressure, no judgement – just a safe, friendly environment where you can create, chat and find some calm.”
