Walton Perk to open over Christmas for the first time

Looking for something different to do this Christmas? Walton Perk, Sale’s narrowboat cafe, will be open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day for the first time, serving up festive cheer along the Bridgewater Canal.

Located by Walton Park, the 60-ft narrowboat takeaway cafe is known for its friendly atmosphere and delicious brews. This year, owners Rob and Clare Heale are raising money for Don’t Walk Past Manchester throughout December. The team will donate their tips, plus a portion of sales from their delicious mince pies, Bakewells and chill beef hotdogs to the group.

The self-funded outreach group provides vital support to the homeless across Manchester and Salford, offering clothing, food, water and essentials through the dedication of its volunteers.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Walton Perk will focus on serving coffee and cake, accompanied by festive tunes. Rob hopes the cafe will provide a welcome escape for anyone looking for a change of scenery or some friendly company during the holidays.

“We know Christmas can be a mixed bag for many people,” said Rob. “Whether you’ve got family visiting from out of town, need a breather from being indoors or just fancy stretching your legs, we’d love to see you down by the canal. You can enjoy a great cup of coffee, support a very worthwhile cause and get some fresh air!”

Walton Perk festive opening hours:

  • Monday 23rd: closed

  • Christmas Eve: 9.30-3pm

  • Christmas Day: 11am-2pm

  • Boxing Day: 11am-2pm

  • Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th: 9.30am-3pm

By raising money throughout the month, Rob and Clare are hoping to make a difference to those in need this Christmas. If you’re looking for a way to combine holiday giving with a spot of fresh air and a tasty treat, Walton Perk’s Christmas opening is a must-visit.
