Sale Festival 2023: Our 9 top picks

Sale Festival 2023 kicks off in June with a month-long schedule packed with activities for all the family. 

The full schedule of events happening in M33 has been revealed and will run across a number of local venues including Waterside, Walkden Gardens and Sale Sports Club. 

With lots of events taking place, we’ve picked our highlights from this year’s programme. Enjoy!

Linden Club Beer Festival 2023

  • Date: Thursday 01 - Sunday 04 June 2023

  • Cost: Free entry - £10 for five half pints

Not a big beer fan? No worries, gin and Prosecco will be available throughout the festival too. Food is available from The Curry Den on Saturday 03, with a barbeque on Sunday from 3pm.

Discover Sale - Walking Tour

  • Date: Saturday 03 June 2023, 10-12pm 

  • Cost: Tickets £10 adult/ £1 child (plus online booking fee)

Join Green Guide Alexa Fairclough for a special walking tour of Sale and learn all about its interesting and historical past. 

Expect to hear some interesting facts about the town’s evolution, events and people – as well as seeing some of the quirky art and old buildings around the town.

Meet at Sale Town Hall. This tour will be approximately 2.5 miles and will take 1.5-2 hours.

Also worth a look: Alexa is hosting a ‘Discover More of Sale’ tour on Saturday 17 June. Book tickets.

Join Cork of the North for a special wine-tasting event at Waterside © COTN

Wine Tasting

  • Date: Friday 09 June 2023 from 8pm.

  • Cost: £35pp

  • 18+ event

Marc Hough, the man behind Sale’s award-winning independent wine bar and shop Cork of the North, hosts a special wine-tasting evening at Waterside.

The event will run for approximately two hours, during which time you’ll have the chance to taste six different, delicious wines. Marc is on hand to provide expert commentary, as always.

Sale Cruising Club will be heading down The Bridgewater Canal © Life in Sale

Canal Boat Parade, Waterside Plaza & Canal

  • Date: Saturday 10 June 2023, 2.00pm / Return 3.15pm (approx)

  • Cost: Free

A boat parade through Sale is always a popular event with the locals and this one will surely be no exception.

Sale Cruising Club will start their board parade from The Bridge Inn on Dane Road and sail to Timperley Bridge, before returning at around 3.15pm.


Stand-Up Comedy Night

  • Date: Sunday 11 June, doors open 7.15pm, show starts at 8.15pm

  • Cost: Tickets £12 each

Popular stand-up comedy night with Sam Harland (MC), Jamie Sutherland and Dom Woodward.

Sale Choir Festival 2023

  • Date: Friday 16 June 2023, 7.30pm

  • Cost: £10 (before 31 May), £12 (from June), £6 for under 6s

Waterside’s resident choir ‘The Artful Voices’ will deliver an evening of choral delight and musical goodness. Local choirs of all ages and backgrounds will come together to sing a range of music that will carry you through the decades.

Father’s Day: Fathers Paddle for Free with Grip Adventure

  • Date: Sunday 18 June, 12-5pm 

Treat dad to a relaxing paddle on the Bridgewater Canal this Father’s Day with Grip Adventure. Minimum family of three - and dad paddles for free!

Picnic in the Park at Ashton Park

  • Date: Sunday 25th June, from 1pm 

  • Free entry

Organised by The Friends of Ashton Park, this Picnic in the Park event is usually a fun, family-friendly community event.

Twelfth Night

  • Date: Thursday 29 June, from 7pm

  • Cost: Adult £18.50, concessions (under 16/over 65) £16.50, family (two adults, two children) £60 (pay at the gate or book online)

The Duke’s Theatre Company will be presenting their outdoor production of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ at one of Sale's best green spaces - Walkden Gardens.

The performance will include Shakespeare’s full text, innovative production design and completely original music. To make sure you’re comfortable throughout the performance, make sure you take something to sit on!
