The Works to open new store in Sale’s Stanley Square

Book and stationery retailer The Works is set to open a new store in Sale's Stanley Square, moving into the unit previously occupied by Sally Beauty, which closed last October.

The Works will open in Stanley Square in late April.

The new addition is part of The Works’ ambitious plan to open 60 new stores over the next five years, with a goal of growing its sales to over £375 million by 2030.

With more than 500 stores already across the UK, The Works is focusing on expanding into around 100 carefully selected locations. Their strategy was outlined in the company's financial results for the first half of the 2025 financial year, a period in which they opened three new stores, relocated two and closed eight loss-making sites.

Michael Brown, director of Altered Space, the team behind the regenerated development in Sale, told Life in Sale, "We are delighted to welcome another successful national retailer to the tenant mix at Stanley Square.

"The Works is a significant footfall driver on high streets across the UK and we firmly believe they will be a great addition to the Sale town centre.

"Tenant fit-out works are expected to commence imminently, with an opening scheduled for late April. We wish them every success in their future at Stanley Square!"

A spokesperson for The Works said: “We are delighted to be opening a brand-new store in Sale in April. Located in the heart of Sale's bustling town centre, our newest store will provide customers with a fantastic range of products to inspire reading, learning, creativity, and play, all at fantastic value.

“We look forward to welcoming new customers from Sale and the surrounding areas through our doors!”

The announcement has been received positively locally, with The Works set to be a welcome addition to the mix of high street brands and independent businesses that currently reside in Stanley Square.
